2012 Hyundai Elantra GT

Isn’t it funny how 1 product can grab your attention so quickly?  While Hyundai has been growing consistantly for a very long time, the 2012 Elantra line just seems unstoppable.  The new GT version is no exception.

The GT version is a fancy way to say hatchback, let’s be honest here.  It’s peppy, fun, and has mutiple driving settings including the much advertised feature of setting your steering preference from comfort to sport etc.  While I did notice a difference in these settings, honestly, I just found the one I liked and left it there.  The ability to flip between eco driving and normal is really what I liked the best.  Fuel economy has been such a proud flag for the Elantra cars in 2012, that it is still so encouraging that you don’t have to give up “FUN” to save money and be “green”.  Simply put, if you’re running around town comfortably, use eco mode.  You have friends in the car, you’re chatting and not really there to enjoy the driving experience.  Be in that car by yourself, and feel like driving it harder?  Then change the setting.  That’s where this car really wins.

Interior is pretty standard for the Elantra line of cars.  The hatchback version of the GT really does give you a lot of “tall” room for cargo in the back.  In my case, I picked up my kids after a sleepover a Grandma’s place and was initially concerned I wouldn’t have the room.  Boy was I wrong!  The hatch fit the bags, toys, crafts and other things Grandma’s send home with kids (like more candy!), booster seats are perfect in the back seat and if the munchkins are driving you crazy, just point out the massive sunroof and open it… that’ll buy you a few minutes of distraction 🙂 LOL.

I give this car a real thumbs up, and I’m not a “hatch” kind of guy!  If you haven’t thought much about it, this new Elantra GT should be on your checklist before you make decisions on the small car you choose.  It’s definately a competitor on price, power, fun, style and space!

Thanks to Hyundai Galleryfor the test drive!

2012 Hyundai Veloster

Just to be clear, there will likely be multiple reviews of the Veloster on my blog, mostly due to the fact that I love this car.  I’ll gladly drive it again, and again, and again.  In fact, whilst car shopping recently, this car is TOPS on my list.  I simply chose to wait for the Turbo version to come out before I made my decision (Turbo just arrived at Hyundai Gallery, btw… but it’s hard to keep them in stock!).

I wanted to talk about kids and this car.  I have 2 (kids, not Hyundai’s) and the Third Door design of the Veloster gives you a

chance to have a super-sporty, fuel efficient car… that still makes you feel HIP! but you can still get your Mommy or Daddy duties done easily.  Tons of room in the hatch, but very comfortable for the kids too.  You know it’s a comfy car when my Sweet Pea can have a nappy in the backseat!

This trimline for the Veloster has the most amazing sunroof, as wide as the car!  It’s huge.  For me… a tall guy with short legs means I have a long body.  My head would rub on the roof, which messy thy locks a little.  So if you’re vain like me, it’s a no sunroof trim and you’ll fit in nicely!

You just can’t beat the performance and fuel economy of this car.  It’s like a no-guilt compact sports car!  Bring it on!  And, can’t wait to test drive that TURBO Veloster!  Thanks to Hyundai Gallery for the car!  Here is proof of the great fuel efficiency!

2012 Hyundai Veloster

Since I first saw this car downtown Calgary during the 2011 Dilawri Detour, I’ve wanted to drive it.  Now, it was only in the last few months that I learned that this car was rated at 40MPG!  I wasn’t sure what to expect, it was sporty, but fuel efficient.  This formula usually means you’re going to be let down… on either the performance side, or the efficiency side.

I’m happy to say, this car is Continue reading

2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited

WOW!  Hyundai has changed!  The old cliche about Hyundai from 20 years ago, is not the case any more.  “It’s Sonata good car!”  It IS a great car!  Ok, so Sonata is like a Camry type car, and I love the Camry.  BUT, this car may have changed my opinion slightly.  TONS of room, parents this car is great even if you have 3 small kids.  Trunk space is massive.  The limited package is gorgeous with the leather and sunroof.  The entertainment system is mega-high-tech.

In all transparency, here is what I loved.  Hands free blue tooth phone calling.  Just walk into the Sonata and it pairs automatically with my iPhone. But not only that, I have about a 1 hour drive from Carstairs to downtown Calgary to work.  In that hour some days, I like to listen to “the Beatdown”, my 1 hour DJ Dance Mix radio show that I do on 101.5 Energy FM on Saturday Nights.  NO, not because I like to hear myself, but just to make sure the show is good.  Call it “proofiing” 🙂  Anyway, with the Beatdown on my iPhone… just step in the car and select Media-Streaming on the Sonata radio.  That’s it.  No wires.. no nothing.  Just listen to your iPhone easy-peasy!

I have more notes and details in my Drivedown voicenotes on the 2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited from Hyundai Gallery.  Oh ya, and the Sonata is like $5,000 cheaper thank the Camry.  Just sayin’.
